Sights and Sound of Christmas in San Marcos
Forgive me
for plugging a Christmas event before Thanksgiving Day. But I've
missed this one so many times I'm just jotting this one down as a
little reminder to myself. The Sights & Sounds of Christmas is
just that. We're talking a good old-fashioned small town holiday
extravaganza. Think Norman Rockwell, Christmas in the park, lots
of lights and holiday cheer and the warmth of the season... and a yule
log. You get the idea. Look for it the weekend of
Dec 4-6 on the banks of the San Marcos River in San Marcos.

We've Already Picked Your Replacement
Thank goodness they weren't talking about me. But I was a little
shocked when I heard UT has already decided who's going to coach the
Longhorn football team after Mack Brown's contract ends in 2016.
Mack doesn't seem concerned. But the idea that the boss already
has someone picked to replace me wouldn't give me the greatest sense
of job security. Mack's not planning on leaving UT early
although the school has the option to move him to another position
within the university. I think that's what happened to the last
coach Mac.

President Elect Obama Gives Kids Hope
It's one thing to tell our children that they can achieve anything
they set their minds to. It's quite another thing for them to actually
see it happen. Children of color in the United States now know
that it is possible to reach their dreams even if that includes the
highest office in the land. An entire generation can now set
their sites higher thanks to the achievement of one man. No
pressure, Mr. President.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi
Am I the only one who thought this was a little over the top?
What was the point of ''beaming in'' reporter Jessica Yellin from
Chicago into the CNN Election Central in New York. Yellin
explained she was in a tent surrounded by 36 cameras that were
computer controlled to move in sync with the studio cameras in New
York. Big whoop. The glow around her made her flickering
image look like it was being projected from R2D2's belly.

Is this not the most beautiful bride ever?
Okay maybe I'm prejudiced just a bit because she is my daughter.
Laura is the prettiest bride I've seen in 30 years. Can you
believe my wife and I have been married that long?

Violence in Nuevo Laredo? Sidestep the Issue
US officials are warning Americans to steer clear of Nuevo
Laredo because of violence from rival drug gangs. I've avoided
Nuevo Laredo for ages because of the traffic.
My sister-in-law turned me on to driving to Monterrey through
Colombia, a crossing just west of Laredo. Getting to Colombia is
a snap thanks to the new Camino Colombia toll road from I-35 to
Colombia. Two dollars will save you a lot of aggravation and
long lines at Customs in Nuevo Laredo, too. After you cross into
Mexico you'll have to double back to Nuevo Laredo to get on the main
highway. But you'll be on the outer loop freeway and avoid the
traffic... and the drug lords. |
